Kearney, Nebraska

Kearney, Nebraska

Kearney /ˈkɑrni/[5] is a city in and the county seat of Buffalo County, Nebraska, United States.[6] The population was 30,787 at the 2010 census.[7] It is home to the University of Nebraska-Kearney.

Kearney is the principal city of the Kearney, Nebraska Micropolitan Statistical Area, which consists of Buffalo and Kearney counties.

The Great Platte River Road Archway Monument arches unexpectedly over I-80 east of Kearney near exit 272. The multimedia exhibits tell an engaging story of the people who've passed this way, from those riding wagon trains to those zipping down the interstate.

Like all the I-80 towns, Kearney has no shortage of motels. A good indie choice near downtown is Midtown Western Inn, which has a vintage motel vibe with huge, clean rooms.

The compact downtown, near US 30 and the bust UP mainline, has good cafes and bars including Thunderhead Brewing Co, which makes a fine dark wheat beer and serves pizza and sandwiches.
